5th Australian Colloid and Interface Symposium
30 January – 3 February 2011
Hobart, Tasmania
The two session themes for the ACIS meeting are (a) Minerals and Materials and (b) Neutron and Synchrotron Techniques. The two keynote speakers are Pupa Gilbert (nee De Stasio) from Wisconsin-Madison (materials and minerals: PEEM etc) and Michael Zharnikov from Heidelberg (synchrotron theme: photoemission and NEXAFS of surfaces). David Beattie ([email protected]) is co-organising the two themes.

IXS2010
11-14 October 2010
World Trade Center, Grenoble, France
The 7th International Conference on Inelastic X-ray Scattering is hosted by ESRF and Politecnico di Milano. It will provide a forum for presentation of novel results, discussion of present and future trends, and interaction between participants who use different IXS techniques for a wide variety of applications. The conference will cover electronic resonant and non-resonant scattering (soft and hard x-rays), emission spectroscopy, meV-resolved atomic dynamics, nuclear inelastic scattering, Compton scattering, and thermal diffuse scattering.

International School on Synchrotron Radiation
17-25 January 2011
Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) Campinas, SP, Brazil
LNLS and FAPESP are organising an international school on synchrotron radiation for students doing a PhD. The school will deal with scientific domains (structural biology, 3D-imaging, magnetism, nanosciences, catalysis, etc) rather than techniques. All lectures will be in English. Lodging, transportation and air tickets will be covered and organised by the School. Applications close 15 October 2010.
